Well, our car situation came to a crisis, and the crisis hath passed. Yay!!!

Last week, our 1990 Volvo wagon went kaput. It’s been having problems for a while and kept dying, but last week it finally just gave up.

We put it up for sale on Craigslist and hoped for the best. We told people to bring their mechanic, and listed it for just $1000.

Well, some lovely, wonderful person sent me the name of a Volvo mechanic here. He’s cheap, he travels and he fixed the car in less than 30 minutes with a $50 part. The total? $83.51.

Our Ford is still dying at every stoplight, and last night I made a momentous decision — I decided to sell it and get rid of it for good, and to keep the Volvo (and the accompanying cheap mechanic) instead.

We’ll get the current problem fixed, of course, and then sell it for cheap. And we’ll light a candle for the next owners, who will be luckier than us in that they didn’t pay a new-car price for it.

We should get enough to put a/c back in the Volvo and to buy Marti his new commuter vehicle: The Kymco People S 200.

We found one on consignment at Scoot Over here in Tucson. It only has a couple hundred miles on it and is a blast to ride. We’re back to being a one-car family as we continue to downsize our life.

And you know what? Every time I look at this cute little machine, I don’t mind a bit. :)
