For those of you who might have been confused about the Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show, let me tell you that it is a parody of Japanese television. Before you laugh and point too much, remember that we are a nation that embraces shows like “American Idol” and “Survivor.” Really, people in pink tutus trying to jump hurdles while on a continuously spinning treadmill decorated in black and white stripes? IT’S NOTHING. At least nobody was voted off the show.

I actually am amused by Japanese television, and spent many a winter’s eve watching to see what trapped man would eat (a man trapped in a room, only able to eat what he won by writing postcards to contests in magazines. Of course he won a giant bag of dogfood first off) and what would happen to the guy dropped off in Okinawa with nothing but ten dollars (sen yen) in his pocket and told to get back to Osaka on his own devices. Those shows were entertaining, even if I didn’t understand every word. Other favorites included a man who dressed up like a giant poodle and walked through a big open market trying to hump everyone’s leg, and shows that demonstrated the Japanese mind, such as the one where everyone moves to the side if you ring a bike bell, regardless of whether or not you’re actually on a bike.

Anyway, here’s another choice slice of Japanese television for your entertainment. Enjoy!
