Killer Pussies

Filed under: General, Pictures/Video, Wee Naughties — site admin @ 11:34 pm

For Christmas, a co-worker gave me an awesome calendar called “Bad Kitties.” It’s a collection of cat photos from MyCatHatesYou.com. Now, it’s no secret that my family loves evil cats. I love evil cats. I don’t like the “wind around your legs, jump into your arms” kind of kittie. I like cats who hate everyone, who majestically take over your couch/bed/favorite chair, who deem to allow you to stroke their rich fur. Imperial cats. Queenly cats.

That being said, I love a killer pussy too, and here’s a great story about a cat that wakes up its owner when the house is on fire. Dogs, you are out of a job, I say. But the best part is the picture. Does this look like an altruistic cat, hoping to save its owner? I think not. This is what the cat was really thinking: “Get your ass up and get me out of here before I singe my fur, you worthless piece of @$#!”

No More Politics, No More Finance

Filed under: General, Politics, Money — site admin @ 12:44 am

For a long time Marti and I have talked about me starting up another blog, an anonymous one so I can stop pissing off my various family members by talking about politics. It is also a bit dodgy to talk about finances on a known blog, for obvious reasons, so a few weeks ago I finally decided to do it — I started an anonymous blog for finances. Then, I decided to start another blog for politics. I mean, yes, I’m geeky, but I’m also a chronic writer and I think that I can keep up 3 (yes, 3!) blogs without a lot of trouble. I also noticed that, surprisingly, my political posts were among the highest ranked posts on my site, so somebody enjoys them, even if that somebody is not anyone in my immediate or extended family. Or what do I know, maybe you are all gluttons for punishment?

So, I will remain nameless for the financial blog (although there may be a prize to whoever ekes me out — I’m talking to you, Thania) but the political blog is aptly named: www.scumsuckingliberal.blogspot.com. So, if you enjoy my political commentary, please stop by, but if not, you never have to read it again. Ever. Debbie, you can stop cheering any time now.

I have taken down my most inflammatory posts but I stopped at deleting all of them. I enjoyed going through them again. I don’t often look through my political rants after I have vented them, but I was surprised that I sounded…well, sort of informed. Not as much like a foaming-at-the-mouth political commentator as I imagined. I still like Barak Obama’s comment, and I still love this quote from Nietszche: “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look long into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

Now I have to consider whether or not to start a dieting blog and join the Club Mom crowd, or continue my dieting humiliation here.

So what will be on this site? Well, I will continue to post fun(ny) stuff, amusing nothings, my favorite photos, photos of kids and stuff on running/triathloning as it comes. I really want to focus this site on my family here in Tucson, because I started this site for my family and friends who are far away but still want pictures and videos of my kids, so that is what I will do on this site. I may branch off for triathlons and racing in general if I do enough of it, as well as for dieting (5 blogs? We’ll see).

One of the reasons for this change (other than my desire to placate my Republican family) is my desire to make my blogging habit profitable, and for that I need to stick to a particular subject for my blogs. Since I have written about a lot of stuff, it makes it hard for my blog to be ranked and surprisingly I don’t get more people because my blog is diverse, I get less. I suppose because people want blogs to be somewhat predictable and with mine, you could get information on dieting one day and a tirade about overseas investments the next. So, I am trying to separate my world into manageable chunks, and make money through advertising and other ways. It is really the only way I get paid to write, which is what I love best, so maybe you think I am a sell-out or at the least, impossibly optimistic, but even if I break even money-wise I think that’s okay. I get to write and people are occasionally crazy enough to read what I write, and that’s enough for me.

My political blog is linked on the right and all posts (and comments) have been reposted to the new site. Thanks for putting up with me and now those that don’t want to hear about it don’t have which = more happy relatives. This is my Christmas present to you, you know who you are.

Maya, Month Six

Filed under: General, Pictures/Video, Babies — site admin @ 9:37 pm

This month…oh, this was the month of months my baby girl. This month you crawled. First you got up on all fours — that was a big step. Then you wildly rocked back and forth, trying to make yourself go. I could see the wheels turning in your head: “Go! Go, I said….now! Now! Why won’t it go…..(wailing, dissolving in tears)” I watched you do this because it is how I feel about getting up every single morning, and I could see that pain, that frustration, that WHY WON’T MY BODY DO WHAT I WANT IT TO that I feel whenever I try to dance or do anything graceful. And I thought, wow. That is one stubborn baby, because after a little comfort (boobie) you would want to get down so you could rock furiously back and forth all over again.

It was the hands, Maya. You needed to move your hands. You would get both feet on the ground and spin like there’s no tomorrow but you couldn’t figure out that crawling required hands. I mean, mommy and daddy move, and don’t use their hands. What’s the deal here? And then, one day, I got a frantic call from Marti in the other room. “Missy, come here! She moved her hand!” and lo and behold the time hath cometh, and it was good, and the hands hath moved. And so the downward descent begins. Next you will be flipping me the bird and flouncing out of my house, midriff showing, in a pair of stilletto heels.

Now you crawl with a peg leg — on one knee and one foot. I might be saying this because I gave birth to you, but it’s the cutest thing on the planet, other than you patting me and making cooing sounds. Eat your heart out world, this baby is mine.

My house is now, officially, a death trap for you, my dear daughter. Ben trails small, ingestible items like breadcrumbs throughout the house, which makes you so extremely happy. You spend hours crawling around now, finding pennies (blocked trachea) and bits of wire (permeated intestinal tract), colored paper (lead poisoning) and tape (escherida coli, random bacteria).

It’s still pretty cute, though.

Oh, and have I mentioned that you have totally captivated your daddy? That he worships you and holds you and doesn’t even like to share? I would be jealous except it gives me more time to sleep. And since you started trying to cut teeth, sleep is my friend, my long, lost friend.

On to month seven.

Here’s some video of you, swordfighting with your brother, that I stole from your daddy’s site. This is precrawling, but as you can see, you are already a real fighter. I love you, baby girl. You are the best thing ever.

Another post about money

Filed under: General, Money — site admin @ 8:55 pm

We are looking to buy a new car, as I mentioned earlier, and we are wrestling with a few decisions: new vs. used, brand, big vs. little, etc. Mainly we are not wrestling with the fact that we need a new car. Badly. Because our reliable car is losing its transmission…for the third time… and our older, back-up car is dying. Literally. I am amazed every day that it starts. I wasn’t looking for an article on buying a car, but here is a really, really great one by Single Ma’s Fabulous Financials, and a great link here, too (a little ugly but content is good). I guess I’m not the only fabulous one out in cyberspace! But wish me luck as we begin hunting for our new car…
