The Racing Season

Filed under: General, Running/Triathlons — site admin @ 12:14 am

Next weekend starts my first race of the season, and the first run I have done since 2004 when I was in Idaho. I am excited; I plan to race all winter and hopefully be ready to run a half-marathon in Yoron in March. I haven’t been back to the island for 6 years; I can’t wait! Anyway, if you’d like to donate to breast cancer research, you can pledge my Phoenix run here.

True words

From Big Slice:

Being a fat woman, I’ve learned to avoid the camera. I don’t enjoy seeing myself on videos. The sound of my voice grates, the size of my butt causes me to cringe. I rarely look past my own physical dimensions to see the twinkle in my eye as I play with my kids, or the way my laughter causes my children to beam with delight… Blogging has become a way for me to capture these memories. It is a way for me to freeze time and someday, to bring them inside my head to see what I see. I don’t know if it is vanity talking, but I truly do want my children to have this record. And as dissatisfied as I am with my own physical shape sometimes, I am inspired to get in front of the camera more, to make a permanent record of my relationship with my children, my family and friends.

Where are you? And why aren’t there Maya pictures?

Filed under: General, Babies — site admin @ 11:17 pm

I am having some technical difficulties with my site, and currently cannot upload pictures. Hence, the boring past month. Hopefully I can find some time to fix this. For now, the update:

Ben and Maya and Marti all came home to me, safe and sound after their trip. Marti has pledged to never, ever do that to me again.

My keys were never found, despite repeated calls to lost and found and visiting every store I even so much as looked at while I was shopping that night. Marti FedEx’d me his keys, thank heavens, and I retrieved my Volvo from the mall parking lot. It promptly died at the first stop light.

We are selling our wonderful Volvo, for anyone interested, preferably nobody who ever wants to be friends with us again. We’d be happy to sell it cheap.

Maya is very sweet and wonderful and is now 3 1/2 months old. She is gaining skill in drooling, getting her entire fist into her mouth and grabbing her feet. She can now grab her toes, to her great delight. All is well in the world.

Marti is still home with the kids. His boss, who might possibly be the most wonderful boss in the world, got a bunch of people to donate vacation leave so he is actually getting paid. Marti has decided that staying home and still getting paid to not work is the best thing ever, and is considering it as a second career. I don’t know how his boss will feel about that, however…

I started riding my bike to work in addition to running three times a week. I lost 7 pounds and promptly gained 4 back. According to the Google 15: “Congratulations! You have 33.4 pounds left!”

In unrelated news, Godiva recently had a big sale, with 30% off their gold boxes, some up to 50%.

We are getting ready to go to the specialist in Phoenix and I will keep you all updated on Maya’s lip and impending surgery.

Hope you all are well, and I will try to get pictures up as soon as I can.
