I am on a diet, so I went out and bought some Newman’s “Hint O’Mint” creme cookies today.
Naturally.
I am quite a few pounds overweight these days. However, I am doing a very cheesy, and very fun thing, and that is online dieting. Every year, Self magazine has an online fitness tracker that is free for three months. Every time you enter information into the fitness log, it enters you for a prize-of-the-day drawing, and at the end, you are entered to train with a world-class trainer in L.A. (where else?). If you subscribe to the magazine, it offers a free online fitness and diet tracker, which is actually pretty cool. It also shows pictures of beautiful, tan women with very flat stomachs to “inspire” your (aka, make you feel guilty. I try to ignore this, and not to observe my own extra “fanny pack” ). But anyway, the diet. So I found out that I don’t eat enough protein, I eat too much fat and I can’t stay on a diet over the weekends. It’s interesting to see how habits and failings pop up with a good tracking system. So, I am upping my protein and fiber intake, and lowering my carbs to an acceptable level and then we’ll see what happens. The workouts on there are good, too — you know a workout is good when its hard to get dressed the next day.
So I’m dieting, but at the same time, I am trying to treat myself more kindly. Yet again, I need to quote Anne Lamott: “I have become the woman I hardly dared imagine I could be. There are parts I don’t love–until a few years ago, I had no idea that you could have cellulite on your stomach–but not only do I get along with me most of the time now, I am militantly and maternally on my own side.
Left to my own devices, would I trade this for firm thighs, fewer wrinkles, a better memory?
You bet I would. That’s why it’s such a blessing that I’m not left to my own devices.” So everyone needs some hard workouts and some good dieting guidelines, but you know what else I need? Hint O’Mints. Just for the fanny pack.
