Just kidding.
Anyway, today I begin a class in elementary Arabic. For those of you who know I enjoy the cultures of semi-hostile or hostile countries, this won’t be a huge surprise. I am looking forward to learning another extremely difficult language. My Japanese is on a downward spiral (seems like I forgot how to say “hand” or something similar the other day) and I really should be working on perfecting it, but all the Japanese classes were full. The same with Spanish, which I use several times a week — all classes full. But, I’ve wanted to take Arabic for several years now. Despite the violence surging through many Arabic-speaking nations, I think the culture is somewhat amazing, and I see evidence of the Moors in architecture even here, in Tucson. My house has arches along the front porch, for example, and intricate grillwork — a style brought by the Spanish, who borrowed it from the Moors. Regardless, I anticipate a difficult semester as I try my hand at a new language and buckle down to finish my book (89 pages so far!). Oh, and we may sell our house…but I will continue that saga later.
